FAQ’s about wood from public and private trees

Question:

Is there coordination with the city to harvest the wood from ash trees?

Answer:

The short answer is, yes; if the tree is a good candidate, it will be set aside to be sawn into lumber. The biggest challenge is in finding end users. We’re working on that–working to get wood into the Madison College, MMSD, and UW woodworking programs, as well as local park projects developed by interested neighborhood groups. Help us spread the word: buy local wood, and local wood goods.
This site is in development stages, so keep watching, but for now you can send people to WisconsinUrbanWood.org to see which businesses are working together to recover, process and sell this important resource to the public (as opposed to using wood harvested from living trees in forests near and far).
Are you hoping to use some of the wood, or have a woodworker make something from it for you or your family?
