Sustainable Atwood is creating models of sustainability by expanding and creating sustainable practices, designs and systems in our neighborhood of 6,000 residents in Madison, Wisconsin.  Our models are being replicated throughout our city, the state and United States for the good of neighborhoods everywhere.

Twink Jan-McMahon, Executive Director

Twink Jan-McMahon co-founded Sustainable Atwood in 2010, chairs its board of directors, and is Executive Director for Wisconsin Urban Wood–a  statewide network of tree care providers and wood processors reclaiming urban trees for their highest uses.  Twink grew up in California and earned a BS in Psychology in 1984 and a Master of Divinity in 2006. Twink moved to SASY in 1996, served on the SASY Neighborhood Council from 2007 to 2013 and has served as interim pastor for several local congregations. Twink appreciates how diversity–in people, trees, and cultures–is fundamental to the sustainability of the planet. When Twink isn’t developing sustainability programs, she loves riding mules with a friend, cycling, eating fair trade chocolate and relishing delicious foods at her favorite Atwood-Winnebago eateries.

Jessica Ray
Jessica Ray

Jessica Ray lives in the SASY neighborhood and is the Atwood Tool Library Director for Sustainable Atwood. Originally from Iowa, Jessica earned her B.A. in Studio Arts (2004) and Juris Doctor (2009) from the University of Iowa. Jessica moved to Madison and the SASY neighborhood in 2010, and after a short stint in Portland, OR, returned in 2013. She came to Sustainable Atwood in 2012, inspired by the tool lending libraries in Portland, with the goal of establishing one in Madison, her chosen home. Jessica believes in the power and beauty of building and sustaining communities, supporting families and neighbors, and making change. While developing the Atwood Tool Library, Jessica enjoys working with babies and families as a full-time professional nanny. In her free time, she loves DIY projects, live music, antiquing, zombies, and food – eating consciously, deliciously, and joyfully with loved ones.
